5 Types of DC Motor
1. Permanent Magnet (PM) Motor
2. Series Excited Motor
3. Shunt Excited Motor
4. Compound Excited Motor
5. Separately Excited Motor
- The Greatest Advantage of DC Motors :
- Speed control
- Armature voltage and field current change the rotor speed
- Frequency drives provide precise speed control for AC motors
- No adverse effects on power quality.
1. Permanent Magnet (PM) Motor
The stator is a permanent magnet. The motor is smaller in size.2. Series Excited Motor
The stator and rotor winding are connected .The torque gives the highest torque per current ratio over all other dc motors.
Used in starter motors of cars and elevator motors.
3. Shunt Excited Motor
The rotor and stator windings are connected in parallel.
4. Compound Excited Motor
The stator is connected to the rotor through a compound of shunt and series winding.
5. Separately Excited Motor
The rotor and stator are each connected from a different power supply to control the motor over the shunt.
